Catching up on 2015

January 30, 2016

Happy 2016

It's hard to believe that it has almost been a year since my last post. Ooops! Now that's not being a very good blogger! Last year was extremely busy, both personally & professionally. So please accept my apology for the extra long post, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Have you seen the recent advertisement for a new tv show in which she says something to the effect that there's only 24 hours in a day but 48 hours of things to do.

Well, that pretty much sums up the last year!  Anyone else relate?

We have continued painting, creating, selling & posting our reNEWed furniture, however an actual post not so much.  Thanks to so many of you, Kenzie Lynn Designs continues to grow and we look forward to an even better 2016.

We are happy to announce we are in the midst of overhauling our website to make it more mobile friendly and easier to navigate. Fingers crossed, we should have it up and running in the next few months.

Last year we also took on our largest project to date. The future home of Kenzie Lynn Designs, a pony barn dating back to the 1890's. An incredible space in need of a lot of work.

Where is Chip & Joanna when you need them?

Good news, there has been a lot of progress made since this photo was taken. In the next few weeks we will be posting our journey with lots of photos.

Last year we welcomed our fourth grandchild, Chase Edward.  Chase is the first child for my oldest son Matt and his wife Christina.

Boy, how I love this little guy!
Such a Blessing!

But what kept us the busiest in 2015 was all the planning for the September Wedding for my youngest daughter Amber to her then fiance Justin. After her engagement, I half heartily suggested eloping or possibly a destination wedding. You see, the two of us are dangerous together and I knew all to well, with her taste and our creativity and DIY skill we were in trouble!

We spent the first part of 2015 planning, pinning and sharing ideas.
But when March rolled around (about the time of my last post) it was time to get busy!
 It was crunch time!

Thankfully, the venue was found rather quickly, The Grand Geneva Resort & Spa located inLake Geneva, WI

There were a few options for the actual location for both the ceremony & the reception.

For the ceremony, they decided on a beautiful outdoor area overlooking a pond.
Doesn't look like much yet, but it will!

The reception they decided would be held at The Mountain Top, a ski chalet nestled on the back property of the Grand Geneva.

Once the decision was made on the locations, it took a few trips back to get measurements, photos and a clear vision on what each space could become. Now keep in mind, the chalet is a ski lodge and we were visiting during peak ski season. So we really, really had to look past the skiers, skis, boots and muddy floors to visualize what the space could become.

The bones of the chalet are incredible, high ceilings, wood beams, floor to ceiling windows looking out to ski hills which come September would be covered with wild grass & flowers. We had no doubt the perfect location for the Rustic themed Wedding.

The building itself was perfect, however it was going to need a lot more than the tables andplastic chairs the venue supplied.

I had no doubt what we could do to transform the spaces. My only hesitation, the amount of time & work that would be required.

But seriously, it absolutely was a no brainer!
After all, isn't it every parents wish to give their daughter the Wedding of her dreams.

And so it began...

Six months of trips to thrift stores, painting, sewing and lots and lots of building. Most weekends Amber, Justin her Father and I spent together implementing our ideas.
I really enjoyed those times together!

Here the happy couple is building one of our first projects, two faux fireplaces.

Justin will be the first to admit, he didn't quite get "it", didn't quite see the vision.

Truth be told, there were more than a few times I questioned it all myself.

After all... who brings a twenty foot Uhaul jammed packed to their Wedding?

However any reservations I may have had, all diminished on the day of the Wedding.

I will never forget the look on Justin's face and what he said when he finally saw everything in place.

"This is magical, really magical"

It was at that moment I too realized that we did "it" and the six months of work leading up to this day had most definitely been worth it.

Everything about their special day could not have been more perfect--it was The Best Day Ever!

This magical day, their magical day would be memories for them to share for a lifetime.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Capaccio "The cutest couple ever!"

Wishing you a lifetime of love & happiness!

And because this post is already long enough, I'll save the many DIY & thrift store finds that were used to personalize their special day in a future post.

Happy weekend!!
